Transmissionary Six
FILMguerrero has released the first 3 albums from Paul Austin and Terri Moeller, who since 2001 have recorded under the name The Transmissionary Six. Austin co-founded Willard Grant Conspiracy and Moeller is also the drummer for The Walkabouts; both the acoustic palette of the former and the latter's rhythmic drive are here in spades, wrapped in a coating of velvety fog supplied by producer Tucker Martine (Jim White, Laura Veirs, Modest Mouse, Bill Frisell, Wayne Horvitz, as well as his own FILMguerrero released Mt. Analog).
How to describe a band with sonic reference points as diverse as Giant Sand to Talk Talk? Much more cohesive than that may seem; The Transmissionary Six start with delicate, melancholy songcraft, and on Get Down add the sparest of ornamentation courtesy of, among others, violinist Anne Marie Ruljancich (Jesse Sykes' Sweet Hereafter); organist Steve Moore (Laura Veirs' Tortured Souls); and Scott Colburn (Climax Golden Twins). Also guesting are members of Norfolk & Western, Tracker, and Mount Analog. Who comes to see this band live? Fans of Nina Nastasia, Red House Painters, and Swell have all taken an ongoing and increasing interest in The Transmissionary Six as well.
